Barbara VanderWerf came to Palm Beach Atlantic University in October 2006. As a staff member, Barbara developed a heart for students; and in 2014, she began serving as an adjunct professor of business and management. Prior to joining the PBA community, Barbara worked in the marketing department at IBM before exiting the workforce to raise her three children: Andie, a 2011 and 2013 PBA alumna, who has her own counseling practice; Tay, a 2012 PBA alumna, who is pursuing a doctorate in history at the University of Michigan; and Joe, who is in the Army Reserves and building a career in the fishing industry. While raising her children, Barbara assisted in the operations of worship ministries at a local church and worked at a small business in West Palm Beach. She attended Moody Bible Institute, majoring in Christian education, and came to PBA to complete her education, eventually earning a master’s degree in business administration. She is a student mentor, teaches in the FYE program, and teaches management and leadership. Most recently, Barbara developed a new elective in personal finance. She has a private financial coaching business as well. Barbara loves spending time with her grandchildren and going on long walks with her rescue dog, Abbey.
